Biomanufacturing Site Plan OK’d In Worcester

The Planning Board Wednesday night unanimously approved a definitive site plan for a proposed $60 million biomanufacturing facility to be developed by WuXi Biologics, a global Chinese biomanufacturing company. The two-story, 110,000-square-foot building will be constructed in the new 46-acre biomanufacturing park at 305 Belmont St., known as The Reactory. Worcester Biotech Business Park Lands Financing for Site Preparation

A planned biomanufacturing business park on the grounds of the former Worcester State Hospital is moving forward thanks to financing from Country Bank. The Worcester Business Development Corp. secured a $2.7 million loan from the Ware-based $1.5 billion-asset bank to fund site preparation efforts at The Reactory. WuXi Builds Momentum For Worcester Biomanufacturing Park

At a meeting on Nov. 13, the board is scheduled to review a site plan for the first building to be constructed on the site: a roughly 110,000-square foot, two-story clinical and commercial research and manufacturing bio-pharmaceutical facility for WuXi Biologics, according to the application before the board. Blais said he and the company are still negotiating a final purchase-and-sale agreement but he hopes the company will begin construction in the spring and create 100 to 150 jobs.
